The New South Wales Government has announced it will streamline 10 key stretches of road as part of the state's ongoing speed zone review.

Launched in June, the review was announced in response to community complaints that rationalisation of the state's speed zones is unclear, changing frequently along single stretches of road.

“Earlier this year we announced we would be looking at changes to speed zones and speed signs,” NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay said.

“As part of that, we asked the RTA to look at 12 key corridors where speed zones changed frequently or were raised as community concerns."

The number of speed zone changes has decreased, with the Lismore Murrwillumbah Road between Lismore and Murrwillumbah dropping from 19 to 12 separate speed zones.

Speed zones on the New England Highway between Branxton and Murrundi have dropped from 31 to 26

Of the 12 zones audited, four have had speed limits increase, one has remain unchanged - and four have been decreased.

“We know it is annoying for motorists to have to travel through five, 10, or more speed zones on one stretch of road and we want to clean that up," Mr Gay said.

The roads audited include Bucketts Way, New England Highway, Princes Highway, Newell Highway, King Georges Road, Great Western Highway, Mitchell Highway, Forest Road in Orange, Pacific Highway and Lismore to Murrwillumbah Road, along with local roads in Fairfield, Auburn and Parramatta.
