Nissan Australia has announced a new limited-edition package for its tough Y61 Patrol 4WD this week, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Reg Sprigg's Simpson Desert crossing in a G60 Patrol.

Limited to 500 units and based on the Series 8 ST grade, the Simpon 50th Anniversary Edition adds a neat $8500 worth of extra features at no extra cost.

Added features include - among others - satellite navigation with Hema Tracks, a reversing camera, a newly-designed alloy bullbar, driving lights, roof bars, kick plates, bonnet protector, air guide, a branded stainless steel wheel cover, 41 litre branded cool box.

“The Patrol has proven itself over the years as a dependable and rewarding four-wheel-drive and has earned its place as a venerable icon of the Nissan brand,” Nissan Australia Senior Model Line Manager, Michael Hill said.

“This July the Nissan Simpson crossing is a high profile celebration of the Patrol’s achievement in the Australian outback.”

Nissan's all-new 2013 P61G Patrol will make its Australian debut this Summer, and the carmaker's Australian arm has confirmed it will continue to sell the rugged Y61 alongside the newer, larger and more 'civilised' model.

“We’ll continue to sell Y61 as long as the market demand is there, and it makes sense from a portfolio perspective," Nissan Australia's outgoing CEO Dan Thompson told TMR at a preview drive of the new Patrol in 2010.

“With P61G coming in and sitting up top in a very premium section of the large SUV segment, Y61 will have a very relevant role to play - as D22 does in the Navara range today.”

Pricing

  • Simpon 50th Anniversary Edition Patrol - Manual - $56,990
  • Simpon 50th Anniversary Edition Patrol - Auto - $59,990

Note: prices are Manufacturer's List Price and exclude on-road costs.
