Nissan Juke-R Confirmed For Limited Production Run, And More Power

You're now witnessing the rarest of occasions in the automotive world: a carmaker reveals a one-off concept, hears the cries of its fans, and promises a production run. 

In the case of the Nissan GT-R powered Juke-R, the cries of the fans were made from fat deposits, and the production run will be extremely limited.

"The Juke-R was originally intended as a one-off concept to marry two of Nissan’s most innovative models," Gareth Dunsmore, Marketing Product Manager for the Juke, said.

"But the reaction we had to the car in Dubai was amazing – people were making offers for the original on the street!"

The project's production plans were announced at this week's premiere of a special online film that follows Nissan GT Academy winner Lucas Ordonez as he takes on some of the world's finest supercars.

As a concept, the Juke-R is a massively modified version of the regular Juke SUV (not offered in Australia), with a 358kW/580Nm version of the Nissan GT-R's twin-turbo V6 engine sending power to all four wheels.

Despite an official 0-100km/h time of 3.7 seconds, the Juke-R concept's output isn't enough, Nissan UK and engineering partner Ray Mallock Limited says, for a production version of the car.

Instead, buyers will get the full 404kW and 628Nm of torque delivered in the latest version of the GT-R. In 'Godzilla', those numbers contribute to a 0-100km/h time of 2.8 seconds, and Juke-R buyers can likely expect a similar sprint. 

But with a 1806kg kerb weight  - compared to 1740 for the GT-R - they might not crack a sub 3.0-second time.

Nissan says it has received three orders for the Juke-R, with a six-figure price tag rumoured to be around AU$200,000.

With all of the GT-R's power now on tap, we'll likely here of more buyers soon.

“With such a strong reaction, and with three genuine offers on the table, we decided we had to make the car a reality," Dunsmore said.

"We can’t let down enthusiasts who are this keen to add to their collection of cars. The Juke-R has become something of a phenomenon and I’m enormously proud of the impact it has had. There will be more news to come on Juke later in the year."
