Joining the likes of Toyota and Mitsubishi, Nissan Australia has announced its new myNissan Capped Price Service program.

While the Toyota Service Advantage offers a three-year/60,000km capped service price, and Mitsubishi's Diamond Advantage offers a four-year/60,000km cap, the myNissan Capped Service program gives owners a full six years or 120,000km of capped price servicing.

The program applies to the first 12 x 10,000km scheduled services, and is limited to six years if the vehicle is not driven 120,000km in that time.

Capped price servicing is a relatively new feature for manufacturers in Australia: Toyota's Service Advantage was launched in 2008, followed by the Mitsubishi Diamond Advantage in January this year.

It remains to be seen if more carmakers follow suit. While a number of brands provide service price 'guidelines' to their franchise dealer networks, many dealerships set their own service costs - giving the dealer an opportunity to make up lost profits on low margins in new car sales.

Speaking with CarSales recently, Nissan Australia CEO Dan Thompson said that it was only a matter of time before other carmakers launched similar services.

"Give it another 12 to 18 months and I think you'll see all the major brands have some form of capped price servicing," Mr Thompson said.

"Customers want certainty and you can lose them to non-dealership outlets if you don't look after them."
