Everyone loves a good rumour, and Renault fans will be hoping this one has a hint of truth to it.
Renault will reportedly do the Gordini name greater justice with future iterations, starting with an enhanced version of the new Clio RS hero.
While recent Gordini offerings have been light-on in the performance books, the new Clio Gordini RS is expected to bring significant enhancements.
For now however, the only source of information on the new Gordini is a seemingly well-connected member of the Forum-Clio.com online community, who claims to have the inside word on what's to come. (Take that with however many grains of salt you like.)
The user claims the new Gordini will have power boosted from 148kW/240Nm in the regular Clio RS to a sizeable 171kW and 285Nm.
Riding on the new model's Cup chassis, the Gordini will reportedly sit a further 10mm lower, while dropping around 25kg from its kerb weight.
In its current form, the new Clio RS claims a 0-100km/h time of 6.7 seconds, and these enhancements could pull the Gordini below 6.0 seconds.
On the styling front, we can likely expect the familiar Gordini blue-and-white colourway - and variations on the theme - along with Gordini-branded trim items inside and out.
It remains to be seen if this report is authentic, but with a Gordini model expected in the new year, we'll know soon enough.
For now, the regular Clio RS is expected to hit Australia early in 2014.
