Alfa Romeo’s new midsized sedan, rumoured to be named Giulia, will make its world premiere in June.
Fiat Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne revealed the news at this week’s Detroit Auto Show, confirming plans for an unveiling event in Milan on June 24.
The reason for a standalone event rather than a motor show, Marchionne told press, is specifically to celebrate the Alfa Romeo brand’s 105th anniversary.
The revered Giulia badge has yet to be confirmed for a comeback, although both Marchionne and Alfa brand boss Harald Wester hinted this week that the name is at least on the table.
“[The Giulia and Giulietta nameplates] are milestones in Alfa’s history which are worthwhile to be reconsidered,” Wester said.
“[But] I’m not confirming the name,” he added, stating that he would not contradict his boss’s comments.
It is known that the new model, known only for now as ‘project 952’, will be positioned as a replacement for the 159.
