The National Gallery Of Victoria (NGV) will soon launch 'Shifting Gears', a new exhibition to honour Australia’s unique contribution to the world of cars.

The exhibition will focus on Australian car design, from the early years through to the present day and beyond, with Lew Bandt’s Ford ‘ute’ being one of the earliest models on display.

From there, visitors can view the 1969 Holden Hurricane concept (pictured, top of page), the 2005 Holden Efijy concept and Australian muscle cars from the 1960s and 70s.

Local racing craft will be on display - plus the likes of niche sportscar manufacturer Bolwell - along with memorabilia, design photographs, models and sketches.

In all, 23 different vehicles will form the bulk of the exhibition.
