Subaru’s new WRX STI hero car is mere weeks from Australian showrooms, but a replacement for Mitsubishi’s Evo X, launched in 2007, is nowhere in sight.

Mitsubishi has sold nearly a quarter of a million Evo models since the badge’s launch in 1992, but reports suggest that run may soon come to an end - or at least go into hibernation.

According to Japanese paper Nikkon Jidosha Shimbun (NJS), the top brass at Mitsubishi have decided to put the current Evo X to pasture later this year. But what of a replacement?
