Mitsubishi has recalled a trio of models in Australia this week due to a potential problem with the tailgate gas struts.

The struts which assist with opening the tailgate, and then hold the tailgate in place, may be susceptible to corrosion.

Specifically, the end cap on the outer tube may not have received sufficient anti-corrosion protection during manufacturing.

A failure of the end cap or the strut could lead to a sudden breakage, with a chance that the cap could strike the user, or the tailgate may suddenly close resulting in injury.

A total of 74,935 vehicles are on the recall list. The list comprises 55,079 Mitsubishi ASXs from the 2013 to ‘2015.5’ model years, along with 2011-2012 ASXs.
