The MINI Countryman's athletic three-door cousin, the Paceman, will debut in Australia from March with a $35,900 starting price.

Two model grades will be offered, starting with the Cooper and topping out with the more sporting $44,100 Cooper S variant.

Those figures represent a circa $2000 premium over the equivalent five-door Countryman models, the Cooper priced at $33,700 and the S at $42,300.

Mechanical Package

The engines available to Australian buyers will be familiar to fans, the Cooper powered by a 90kW/160Nm 1.6 litre mill, and the Cooper S getting a more powerful 135kW heart.

MINI promises a 10.4 second sprint to 100km/h in the Cooper, while the S model lists a 0-100km/h time of 7.5 seconds.
