Mercedes-Benz has offered this mysterious shadow as a teaser image for its new self-driven concept, set to be unveiled at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Spied testing in November, the teaser image arguably reveals less than our spy photos do, but it appears from the shape that the vehicle on test was the real thing rather than a mule.

And that’s to be expected, as Merc went to great lengths to disguise its new concept during testing while revealing a few of the car’s unique features - such as the protruding front wheel arches.

It appears from the teaser that the huge rear brake light seen during testing will remain, which basically stretches across the entire rear end.

That brake light might be necessary as well, with some research suggesting the transition to fully-autonomous cars will present a challenge to drivers of ‘other’ vehicles who are distracted when they notice no one’s driving.
