Merc's new B-Class small car might be set to gain an AMG-tuned flagship, and if ongoing reports of a new 240kW 2.0 litre turbo engine are to be believed, it should be a proper weapon.

If the rumoured A 25 AMG is indeed in the works, this hi-po B-Class would likely get the same turbo mill and a similar designation: B 25 AMG.

While the regular 2012 B-Class was revealed last August (and should hit Australia early this year), these latest spy photos reveal a number of elements that point to some serious massasing.

Up front, Merc has obscured the test car's front bumper, although it appears that only small changes have been made here (for now, at least).

At the rear end, dual exhaust tips poke out of the otherwise unchanged bumper, while the large sports wheels sit in front of sizeable cross-drilled discs and huge brake calipers.

It is possible however that what we're looking at here is a well-disguised mule, testing the all-wheel-drive platform (and possibly the 2.0 litre turbo engine) that is expected to underpin the A 25 AMG and the new BLS (or was that CLC?).

Only time will tell...
