Talk of a two-door Mazda6 is again doing the rounds, following rumours and reports that stretch back to 2011 and earlier.

Motivation for introducing a Mazda6 Coupe likely comes from the US, where models like the Honda Accord can be had in both four and two-door form.

For some in America, the premium style of the new Mazda6 might have it considered a more affordable alternative to the likes of Audi’s A5 and the BMW 4 Series.

Now, a report with the UK’s Auto Express suggests that Mazda is considering introducing a Mazda6 Coupe that would “sit alongside the new MX-5 at the sporty end of the range”.

Sporty? If the current sedan’s mechanical package is anything to go by, a two-door Mazda6 would be considered little more than an exercise in sporty styling - unlike the focused MX-5.
