LOTUS IS NO stranger to the hybrid technology arena, as September's range-extending petrol engine unveiling proved. This week, Lotus has unveiled its latest hybrid project: the Evora 414E Hybrid concept.

Power for the Evora 414E comes two rear-mounted electric motors, each developing 204kW and 400Nm of torque. By comparison, the 2010 Lotus Evora produces 206kW and 341Nm of torque. Lotus has not offered performance figures.

Similar to the Chevrolet Volt, a 35kW 1.2 litre petrol engine works to recharge the lithium polymer battery pack. Relying on the battery charge alone, the 414E's electric motor offers a driving range of around 56 kilometres.

With the petrol engine providing additional charge, the 414E's range is extended to around 480km.

The two electric motors send power to one rear wheel each, with a torque vectoring system ensuring stability.
