Lexus NX Recalled For Park Brake Problems

Lexus has recalled its NX SUV in Australia this week, due to a potential problem with the park brake safety system.

The Japanese carmaker says “NX vehicles are equipped with a brake hold function which keeps the brake applied after the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Under certain conditions (such as unfastening the driver's seat belt), the system is designed to deactivate the brake hold function, warn the driver, and automatically set the parking brake”.

A software glitch could see the safety process fail, allowing the vehicle to move and potentially causing a hazard to vehicle occupants and other road users. There have been no reported cases arising from this issue in Australia.

Affected models include the NX 200t, built between December 2014 and now, along with the NX 300h with build dates between July 2014 and now.

Around 6800 Lexus NX vehicles are on the recall list for Australia.

The recall process will see the software updated for the electronic skid control unit taking around one hour to complete. All works will be carried out free-of-charge to owners.
