Kia Optima Recalled For Potential Driveshaft Damage

Kia has recalled its Optima mid-size sedan this week, due to a potential problem with the right-side driveshaft.

The carmaker has identified a weakness with the driveshaft, due to a malfunction during the manufacturing process.

The glitch means the driveshaft may be susceptible to cracking, which could eventually lead to breakage of the shaft. 

A broken shaft may be preceded by loud noise, followed by a loss of drive. This could cause a hazard to the vehicle’s occupants and other road users.

The recall includes 42 examples of the Optima fitted with the 2.4 litre four-cylinder petrol engine and sold in Australia between October 2015 and April of this year.

Owners are urged to act without delay, and the recall process will see the offending shaft replaced at no cost to owners.

Kia will attempt to contact affected owners immediately, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer.
