Jeep has released new video that offers a cars-eye point-of-view of how well the new 2014 Cherokee comports itself off the beaten track.

The new video comes on the heels of the new Cherokee's online unveiling last month, revealing a polarising new design that blends the classic Jeep look with a new suburban style.

In today's footage, the Cherokee can be seen traversing rough terrain, proving that a 'Trail Rated' version will remain a part of the new line-up.

Technical details for the new Cherokee are still to be confirmed, although it is understood that a toughened version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta's CUSW platform will underpin the new SUV.

Engines options will reportedly include a 3.2 litre V6 petrol, along with a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel mills. Jeep promises a 45 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the outgoing Cherokee.

Watch for the new Cherokee to make its official debut at the New York Auto Show later this month.

Australia

Fiat Chrysler Group Australia has confirmed the new Cherokee will make its Australian debut in the fourth quarter of this year.

“The current model Jeep Cherokee has been a strong sales performer since its launch in 2008 and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new model,” FCG Australia boss Clyde Campbell said.
