Jeep Cherokee And Grand Cherokee Recalled For Airbag Hazard

Jeep is recalling its Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SUVs in Australia due to a potential airbag hazard.

The offending models were built in 2003 for the Cherokee and 2004 for the Grand Cherokee.

The airbag system occupant restraint control (ORC) module has been identified as the source of the problem, as it may trigger in error.

Under these circumstances, the driver or passenger airbag may be deployed for no reason.

Seatbelt pre-tensioners are also included in the ORC system, as these can also be triggered by the faulty module without cause.

Last month, Jeep recalled its current Cherokee model (2015) for an air-conditioning hose problem.

Jeep will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer.
