New reports out of Europe this week suggest a Jaguar-badged SUV is closer than ever, with a 2015 debut believed to be on the cards.

These latest whispers follow news in May that Jaguar has secured the trademarks 'XQ' and 'Q-Type', leaving little doubt that an SUV is at least under consideration.

Now, Britain's Auto Express reports that an unnamed source has confirmed that while the compact 'XS' sedan is still in the works, Jaguar considers the SUV market too hot to ignore.

Reports of a Jaguar SUV have been circulating for years, and with the technologies of sister-brand Land Rover at its disposal, development costs would be dramatically reduced.

For Jaguar, the decision to introduce an SUV could come down to interest in the Chinese market, where the market for high-riding wagons is booming.

China is already one of Jaguar's strongest markets, surpassing the US earlier this year and on its way to passing the brand's UK homeland.

If a Jag SUV is coming, expect it to take its platform and drivetrains from the Land Rover stable, adding the cat's own styling and dynamics to the mix.
