If you thought the R in Jaguar's XFR was about as special as the big cat could get, these new spy photos suggest you've got another think coming.

Due for a debut in the coming months, the new top-shelf XFR-S is getting set to follow the salacious XFR sedan into Jaguar showrooms.

While the XFR holds a perfectly agreeable 375kW 5.0 litre V8 in its chest, we can look forward to the XKR-S coupe's 405kW supercharged V8 propelling the new sedan.

Being heavier than the coupe, acceleration times for the sedan will likely come in at around 4.6 to 4.7 seconds - up from 4.4 for the coupe, but sharper than the XFR's 4.9 seconds. Tight margins, to be sure.

As with its supercoupe stablemate, and unlike the test mule spied here, the XFR-S will debut with its own unique bodykit, adding new aero elements and a handful of tough-mudder styling tweaks.

For now, the spied car wears the existing XFR kit, although we can see the XKR-S coupe's wheels, along with a larger lip spoiler at the back.

Watch for details on the new XFR-S to surface in the lead-up to the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, where it is expected to make its world premiere.
