Italian design house Italdesign Giugiaro has whipped the covers off its stunning Brivido concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The Brivido showcases a low-slung, coupe bodyshell made of carbon fibre and aluminium and a pair of enormous gullwing doors.

Inside, the Brivido concept has enough space inside its sumptuously-appointed cabin for four people, and the front seat passenger gets their own instrument cluster.

An iPad can also be plugged into the dash to control various vehicle functions, and the car's various interactive displays were developed in collaboration with Volkswagen's California-based Electronics Research Laboratory.

The Brivido's drivetrain is also based on Volkswagen technology, which is no real surprise given VW's 90.1 percent ownership stake in Italdesign Giugiaro.

Powered by a 3.0 litre V6 and an electric motor, Italdesign says the Brivido concept could sprint from rest to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds and reach a theoretical top speed of 275km/h. The power output of the hybrid powertrain is a claimed 265kW.

But don't expect to see VW to adopt any of the Brivido's radical features anytime soon - for now, the hybrid sports coupe remains strictly a design study.
