Isuzu has announced a new Limited Edition III model in its D-Max range, one year on from the Limited Edition II and just four months since the release of the short-run D-Max X-Runner.

Based on the double-cab 4x4 D-Max LS-U, the D-Max 4x4 Limited Edition III gains an additional $8000 in extra features and styling elements.

With a sticker price of $45,500, the LE III is $1000 more than the regular LS-U High Ride top spec, and $2010 more than April's X-Runner.

Set apart from the regular line-up by removable racing stripes, the LE III gets chrome treatments to its fog lights, egg-crate grille and rear sports bar with high-mounted brake lights.

There is also a plastic tub liner with tie-down hooks, designed to fit beneath the rim of the tub, allowing a tonneau cover to be fitted.

In the cabin, there's leather upholstery a a six-speaker Kenwood touch-screen audio system, with Garmin satellite navigation, a reversing camera, DVD player and USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

As with the regular D-Max, the LE III is powered by a 3.0 litre turbodiesel engine producing 120kW at 3600rpm and 360Nm of torque between 1800 and 2800 rpm for the five-speed manual, and 333Nm between 1600rpm and 3200rpm for the four-speed auto.

With a towing capacity of 3000kg, the D-Max 4x4 lists fuel consumption figures of 8.4 l/100km for the manual and 9.0 l/100km for the auto.

The new Limited Edition is expected to be the last in the current D-Max range, with a brand-new ute on the horizon and, at last, a D-Max-based SUV for Australia.

Isuzu Australia's new boss, Yasuhiro Takeuchi, has declared it his mission to double Australian sales over "the next few years," with the new models forming the key to his plans.
