Hyundai is the latest carmaker to be linked to a purchase of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, as the rumour mill surrounding an imminent sale continues to turn.

Weeks after China’s Great Wall reportedly expressed an interest in buying FCA’s Jeep brand alone, the Korea Herald reports Hyundai may be looking to take control of FCA to make Hyundai the world’s biggest carmaker.

Along with its own brand and Genesis, and a partnership with Kia, an acquisition of FCA by Hyundai could also hand it control of Jeep, Fiat, Dodge, RAM and Chrysler.

As a result, Hyundai could potentially leapfrog Toyota and the Volkswagen Group to become the number one global carmaker for volume.

Further, the five brands reportedly on the table from FCA could give Hyundai a better foothold in the US and Europe, as each is well-established in its home market.
