Brazil's crossover blitz continues in Sao Paulo today, with the unveiling of the Honda Fit Twist, a new compact SUV.
The Fit is sold in Australia as the Jazz, and the debut of this new Twist model follows news last month of a new light crossover from Honda.
Of all the crossover concepts and offerings to debut in Brazil this week, the Fit Twist is so far the most basic. While the exterior gets the usual rugged-look styling tweaks, the Twist sits no higher than the regular model.
Don't let appearances fool you, the Twist is sitting on the same suspension arrangement that props up the normal Fit - a move that Honda attributes to a commitment to dynamics.
“Raising the car means you lose stability in the corners, and customers tell us they love the way the Fit drives so we’ve kept it the same - this car is just an image change," a Honda spokesperson told press in Sao Paulo.
The spokesperson added that the Twist is a response to the Brazilian market's preference for cars that look "a bit tougher," particularly among younger buyers.
Essentially a market-specific styling exercise, it's unlikely we'll see this one in Australia - and it's also unlikely that this is the Jazz-based crossover Honda has in the works.
