Honda has released a handful of new details on the upcoming Jazz Electric Vehicle ('Fit' in Japan) ahead of its international showroom debut next year.

The Jazz EV is powered by a coaxial electric motor based on the unit already fitted to the Honda FCX Clarity, drawing energy from a lithium-ion battery pack.

Power and acceleration figures remain a secret for now, but Honda promises a driving range of up to 160km (par for the course, there) and a top speed of 145km/h.

Battery recharging can be accomplished in less than 12 hours when using a conventional 120-volt outlet, and less than six hours with a 240-volt outlet.

Like Honda's CR-Z hybrid sports car, the Jazz EV will offer three driving modes to maximise the car's potential: Economy, Normal and Sport.

In Economy mode, optimum driving range is the focus, limiting the motor's output and torque to maintain efficient driving.

In Sport mode, acceleration is the focus, and Normal represents a balance of the two extremes.

The Jazz EV will also be equipped with an interactive coaching system, including a meter display that offers tips on when to shut off the air-conditioning and other accessories to conserve power.

On the styling front, the Jazz EV concept gets a new front bumper and grille cover, along with unique wheels, modified headlights and taillights and a recharge point in the front left quarter panel.

Watch for the Jazz EV to debut in production form next year, although an Australian debut remains unclear for now.
