Holden’s SV6 Lightning, its name chosen from more than 1000 entries in a contest launched on Facebook, hits showrooms this month.

Available in Ute and Sedan form, with manual and auto transmissions, the new specials kick off from $37,490 plus on-roads.

Enhancements for the Lightning models include 20-inch forged alloys, a gloss black finish to the grille frame and fender vents.

The ute gets a slimline tonneau, while the sedan adds black graphics on the doors, a gloss black lip spoiler and, in the auto, alloy sports pedals.

As with the regular models, power is provided by a 210kW/350Nm petrol six.

Sales for the Commodore range, although strong at 4,301 for the year-to-date, have tapered off against the 5,141 achieved over the same period in 2014.

February brought a relatively strong showing however, the Commodore managing 2,517 against 2,777 for the same period last year.

PRICING (excludes on-road costs)

  • Lightning SV6 Ute - auto - $39,690
  • Lightning SV6 Sedan - manual - $38,290
