“There is no such thing as having too much horsepower”, Hennessey Performance reckons. As if to prove it, the American super-tuner plans to offer a model with more than 1400 horses packed inside.

That’s more than 1044kW, with an equally-impressive torque figure no doubt available to the driver’s right foot as well.

Meet the Venom F5; previewed here in these official renderings as the car that will replace the Venom GT in Hennessey’s range, and which the carmaker hopes will officially break (or smash) the Bugatti Veyron’s  431km/h speed record.

In an unofficial test, the GT achieved 270.49 MPH (433km/h), but boss John Hennessey tells Top Gear UK that the F5’s target will be “in the 290 MPH (464kh/h) range”.

To achieve this, Hennessey has designed a new carbon-fibre body from a ‘clean sheet’ which aims to lower drag coefficient from 0.44 to below 0.40.
