Google has handed down a new look at its coming ‘Android Auto’ infotainment system, which will soon take on Apple’s Carplay platform.

The tech giants have been poised to launch new assaults on the automotive realm for some time. Now, with a number of carmakers throwing their support behind each, 2015 could prove to be ‘the year of infotainment’.

As with Apple’s Carplay and iPhone combo, Google’s platform represents a symbiotic relationship between a vehicle’s in-dash display and the Android mobile operating system, used by Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG and others.

This quirk new clip from Google, again starring the Kia Soul hatch, offers an in-depth preview of the company’s hopes for making infotainment a richer and safer experience for motorists.

Android Auto Revealed, Google’s Answer To Apple CarPlay

Importantly, automotive buyers shouldn’t need to worry about selecting their future car based on their mobile device - or vice versa.

As outlined in the second video linked below, some models, such as Hyundai’s new Sonata, will support both Android Auto and Apple Carplay.
