Ford's upcoming EcoSport compact SUV is on show at this week's Australian International Motor Show, but you can't drive away in one just yet.

Like the new Mondeo also on display, the EcoSport is in Sydney purely to whet the appetite. Ford says it won't go on sale here until early 2014.

Ford Australia has shipped in an EcoSport trimmed in the familiar Titanium specification, featuring chrome highlights, 16-inch wheels and Ford's SYNC infotainment system - the latter finally available in Australia in the updated Focus range.

Power for the EcoSport will be provided by Ford's new turbocharged 1.0 litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine (the same technology in Ford's new four-cylinder Falcon), producing 89kW and 170Nm of torque.

While 80kW 1.5 litre petrol and 55kW 1.5 litre diesel engines have also been confirmed, Ford Australia has so far confirmed only the 1.0 litre engine.

The EcoSport's debut is still sometime away - like the new 2013 Kuga, the car will be over a year old when it does finally arrive in early 2014.
