Fiat has taken its Punto light hatch, jacked it up to sit 200mm off the ground, restyled the nose, moved the spare wheel to the tailgate and wrapped it all up in plastic body cladding to create this, the Avventura concept.

Shown at the Dehli auto expo, this Punto-based concept is currently not confirmed for production.

However, with its offroad-friendly ride height and extra body protection, it would be a natural fit for developing markets with extensive networks of dirt roads - such as India, naturally.

Besides the exterior enhancements, the interior gets showy orange-accented trim and a trio of auxilliary gauges atop the centre stack - a compass, roll meter and pitch meter.

However, Fiat makes no mention of powertrain details, nor whether the Avventura takes drive to all four wheels, or just the front two.
