Fiat has provided a glimpse of its upcoming 500X crossover, revealing the new model to the international press in Italy this week.

Joining the 500 range as the fifth model in the family, the brief reveal of the 500X compact SUV follows the unveiling earlier this year of the new 500L five-door.

Measuring around 4200mm long, the 500X will be the longest model in the 500 range and about 60mm longer than the 500L.

The 500X is expected to replace the Fiat Sedici, with a European sales-debut set for late next year.

While the Sedici is built alongside the Suzuki SX4 at Suzuki's factory in Hungary, the 500X is expected to be produced at Fiat's Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy - the first of the current 500 family to be built in the brand's homeland.

The 500X will be built alongside a new Jeep version, with production to begin early in 2014.

The new car, codenamed "B-SUV" will enter beneath the Compass (reportedly due to be retired) and the Patriot, with a debut expected in the first half of 2014.

Plans for a small Jeep crossover were confirmed last year by Fiat and Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne, listing the B-SUV among three new SUVs planned to debut around 2013.
