Ferrari To Take Up Turbos Once More: Report

Despite an abundance of rumours, Ferrari has been staying quiet about whether it will return once more to the world of turbocharging.

In the upper echelons of the supercar world, naturally aspirated engines are seen as being purer than their turbocharged counterparts.

However, with tightening emissions laws and competitors like the Pagani Huayra, McLaren P1 and others all moving to forced induction, Ferrari may have to make the switch itself in the near future.

The California is expected to be the first to go turbo, with the next-generation model adopting the twin-turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 from the Maserati Ghibli. Power is tipped to be in excess of the current California's 365kW 4.3 litre V8. 

And according the US mag Motor Trend, the California's replacement won't be the only force-fed Ferrari. The magazine reports that almost all future Ferraris will feature turbocharging, and the first wave of these will arrive in 2016.

Top-tier supercars like the LaFerrari will likely remain naturally aspirated (or in the LaFerrari's case, a naturally-aspirated hybrid), but cars like the 458 Italia are expected to move to a lower-displacement twin-turbo V8 - or even a high-output version of the California's V6.
