German motoring mag Autobild reports that Ferrari's upcoming replacement for the 599 GTB Fiorano will be called F620, and could possibly pump out as much as 522kW from its 6.26 litre V12.

These spy photos of a pre-production prototype were taken late last year, and the prototype's long bonnet and short cabin indicate the 599's replacement will continue to feature a front-mounted engine and two-seat layout.

The engine is expected to be a higher-output version of the Ferrari FF's 485kW/683Nm 6.2 litre V12, and drive will be taken to the rear wheels via a rear-mounted, seven-speed twin clutch automatic transaxle.

Unlike other supercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador, the F620's chassis will likely be made largely of aluminium alloy instead of carbon fibre. However, some carbon fibre components may be employed to help shave weight.

A big question mark still hovers over the F620's styling, however with an expected reveal date of March 6 at the Geneva Auto Show it won't be long before we find out what it looks like.
