The Williams Formula 1 team suffered a terrifying fire in Spain this weekend, the flames breaking out during the team's post-race celebrations.

Thirty-one people were injured and seven hospitalised as a result of the blaze.

The team were enjoying their first win in eight years, with team principal Sir Frank Williams, team members and associates and the media all in attendance.

It's not yet clear how the fire started but it quickly took hold, with both BBC and and Sky F1 on the scene with cameras, showing thick black smoke billowing from both the front and back of the pit.

The Williams crew were joined by Caterham, Force India, Toro Rosso and HRT team personnel to fight the fire. It was extinguished in a matter of minutes with the support of circuit fire services.

Most of the injuries were treated in the FIA Medical Centre at the track. Of the injuries, nine were from other teams. Several Caterham team members suffered minor injuries and a Force India team member suffered smoke inhalation.

Four of the Williams team were injured, three of them are still in local hospitals.

Sir Frank Williams was quickly evacuated from the garage and was unharmed.

The team issued a statement thanking the support of the F1 family for their courage in fighting the fire.
