According to Wards Auto, Chrysler's sub-brand Dodge could disappear as early as 2016.

As Fiat-Chrysler forges ahead with an aggressive product renewal strategy that will see nearly every model updated by 2016, word is that Dodge will be left with just three models in its stable - the Dart small sedan, the Journey people mover, and the Charger large sedan.

And, according to Wards, two of those models could be easily transferred to Chrysler

The mid-size Avenger will cease production in early 2014, and the Challenger could migrate to the performance-focused SRT brand when it undergoes its next full model change.

Dodge is also expected to lose the Durango seven-seat large SUV to Jeep, which will market it as the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

The Ram Trucks division was separated from Dodge in 2009, and operates as a standalone brand in the United States.

In Australia, Dodge's only model is the Journey people mover. With the Journey-based Fiat Freemont now on the market, the future of the Journey in this country now looks even more uncertain.

The Dodge Dart could potentially come here, but is expected to arrive wearing Fiat Viaggio badges instead.

With Fiat Chrysler Group Australia currently handling the importation of six brands (Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge), is that one too many? If what Wards Auto says is true, by 2016 that may no longer be a problem...
