The Royal Tenenbaums. Rushmore. The Darjeeling Limited. The 2012 Hyundai Grandeur. These are just a small selection of beloved films by writer and director Wes Anderson... wait, Hyundai?

Yes, the famed creator of quirky comedies is among the long list of Hollywood names to have turned a hand to the thirty-second television spot.

This latest, for Hyundai's new Grandeur large sedan, sold as the Azera in the US, isn't his first go (look for his Stella Artois ad from a couple of years back), but it marks his first run with cars - and an odd new approach for Hyundai.

Fans of Anderson's work will immediately recognise his touch in both ads, with elements inspired by his own The Life Aquatic, along with some old favourites not from his catalogue; James Bond and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, for example.

Scheduled to appear during this week's Oscars awards, both ads focus more on creativity and attention-grabbing, rather than the usual onslaught of details and awards.

We'd say Anderson has nailed it. Check them out below.

As for the new Grandeur, which is built in left-hand-drive only and not expected to hit Australia, you can read more about that here.
