Citroen Australia has stunned industry-watchers with the announcement of a six-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, and six-years free roadside assistance, for selected Citroen models.
This is the most generous warranty period (and term of free roadside assistance) currently available in the Australian market.
It is effectively double the industry standard of three years, and longer even than Kia's ground-breaking five-year warranty.
Interestingly, Citroen offers this warranty term in none other of its global markets.
“Introducing this warranty shows our commitment to the product and our commitment to the brand in Australia," Citroen Australia Marketing boss Manuel Tyras said.
What effect it has on Citroen sales remains to be seen - the brand is now very much a marginal player in this market - but Citroen Australia research indicated that warranty and roadside assistance is a key motivator for buyers.
The new six-year warranty is fully transferable.
In other words, after a typical three or four-year finance term, there is still another two to three years of Citroen factory backing sitting on the vehicle.
Which is certainly likely to have a positive impact on Citroen residual values when it comes time to trade-in or sell.
