GM’s Chevrolet arm will unveil a new ‘FNR’ concept at this week’s Shanghai Auto Show, developed at the company’s Pan Asia technical centre.

Details of the new concept are thin on the ground, although an all-electric drive system is understood to be featured.

An autopilot function is also reported to be on-board, hinting at a self-driving autonomous or semi-autonomous system.

Other features include new pupil-recognition startup technology, along with gesture controls and, according to Chinese website AutoSohu, unique “robotic controllers to make time spent driving relaxed”.

The operation of these robotic functions is unclear, although they may be related to the autopilot system.

On the styling front, a single teaser image of the FNR - which stands for ‘Find New Roads - hints at a sports-car design with a slender grille and Camaro-like headlights, along with a wraparound glasshouse design.

Watch for full details and images of the new FNR concept to come early this week.
