Chevrolet has teased an updated version of its Captiva SUV, ahead of a public debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

Sold locally as the Holden Captiva 7, the new revisions follow a significant update in early 2011 of what is now a seven year-old model.

Only the rear end styling can be seen in Chevrolet’s sole teaser pic, but a new rear bumper, square exhaust outlets, and redesigned LED taillights can be seen.

Chevrolet’s press material suggests that the front end will gain a new lower bumper, revised grille insert and foglight design.

In the cabin, the revised Captiva is expected to include improved trim materials, keyless start, dual-zone climate control, heated rear seats and a new ambient lighting system.

There’s no mention yet of a similar update for the smaller Captiva 5 - sold internationally as the Opel/Vauxhall Antara and Chevrolet Captiva Sport - but this could well appear at the larger Captiva’s Geneva unveiling.

This update also suggests that an all-new model could be as far away as 2015, which would mean a nine year lifespan for the current model.

For now, this new facelift will help Captiva compete with fresher rivals like Hyundai’s Santa Fe and the Kia Sorento, along with the smaller Mitsubishi Outlander, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, and Subaru Forester.

An updated Holden Captiva 7 is expected down under over the next year, and will likely be joined by a similarly refreshed Captiva 5.

(Tip of the hat to TMR reader Jordan who first alerted us to this update earlier in February).
