BMW’s next X3 midsized SUV range might see the introduction of a powered-up ‘M’ version, according to reports out of Europe.
Germany’s Focus is reporting that the new X3 M will be powered by a 3.0 litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine making around 373kW.
This is significantly more than the 317kW (and 550Nm) on offer in the likely donor source for the six-cylinder engine in question: the M3/M4’s 3.0 litre twin-turbo unit.
But the spike in power may be necessary, as BMW is reportedly anticipating new versions of Audi’s Q5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC with each to receive the RS and AMG treatments respectively.
This isn’t the first time a BMW X3 M has been suggested, with the German press claiming an M version with M3 power was a done deal over 18 months ago.
