BMW Planning Frankfurt Four: Report

Plenty of noise has been made over BMW's upcoming 2012 M5, with the carmaker confirming earlier this year that it will unveil the new turbocharged V8 sedan at September's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Now, new reports out of Europe suggest BMW will bring three more of its as-yet unseen future models to Frankfurt.

According to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, one of the new models accompanying the 2012 M5 will be another M-division car: the M3 GTS Sedan.

Power for the M3 GTS Sedan is reportedly increased over the 310kW output of the regular M3, but lower than the 331kW of the M3 GTS Coupe.

It is unknown if it will be powered by the same 4.4 litre V8 as the GTS Coupe, or a more highly-tuned version of the M3's 4.0 litre engine.

Expect the GTS Sedan's upgrades to include the Coupe's black 19-inch alloy wheels, larger brakes, rear boot lid spoiler and blacked-out grille.

Moving away from the performance-oriented M cars, BMW's next-generation 1 Series and its electrified i3 city-car are also rumoured to have a Frankfurt debut on their dance cards.

Little has been revealed about the new 1 Series, although BMW has recently kicked off a teaser campaign to herald the new 1's coming debut.

The even-smaller i3, driven by an all-electric powertrain, is also expected to appear in Frankfurt - although its market debut is not scheduled until late next year or in early 2013.

If the report is to be believed, BMW is pulling out all stops to capture the Frankfurt crowd. What will its competitors bring...?
