BMW 2 Series Coupe Spied Testing

The Coupe twin to BMW's new 1 Series hatch has been spied testing once more in Europe this week. As with the new 3 Series-based 4 Series Coupe, it is expected that the smaller two-door models will swap the 1 name for a 2 Series badge.

The Coupe twin to BMW's new 1 Series hatch has been spied testing once more in Europe this week.

As with the new 3 Series-based 4 Series Coupe, it is expected that the smaller two-door models will swap the 1 name for a 2 Series badge.

The test car spied here reveals a new tail-light design, while the front end features slim new headlights more in-line with the new 3 Series and the recent 4 Series concept.

While it might look different, the 2 is likely to share many of its engines and transmissions with the 1 Series.

That will mean a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions, coupled to force-fed 2.0 litre fours in petrol or diesel flavours, and varying states of tune.

A successor to the wildly popular 1 Series M Coupe is also rumoured, and BMW is understood to have registered the 'M2' trademark in the US.

BMW has also recently launched its new M135i hatch flagship, meaning that M235i models could appear in the 2 Series range.
