AvtoVAZ has unveiled the Lada XRAY concept at this week’s Moscow Motor Show, previewing a new family look for the Russian carmaker.

The unveiling is a landmark moment for the Lada brand, whose current line-up still includes the ancient Fiat 124-based 2104 model and Niva 4WD that came to Australia through the 80s and 90s.

The XRAY showcases a thoroughly contemporary three-door crossover design, which continues through to the four-seat interior.

The new concept's nose detail forms a distinctive ‘X’ shape, linking the headlights to the grille and the lower bumper aperture.

Lada says this nose will be used on all future designs, the first of which could reach production by 2015.

The XRAY’s design is the work of new AvtoVAZ design chief Steve Mattin, whose previous credits include the original Mercedes Benz  A-Class and current Volvo XC60.
