Aventador Adds Fuel-saving Tech And Tweaked Chassis For 2013

Lamborghini has rolled out a number of updates for its still-fresh Aventador supercar this week, less than a year on from its international unveiling. 

Focusing on Europe's tightening emissions laws, the Aventador's updates include the addition of new fuel-saving technologies - but the performance factor has not gone without some attention. 

For 2013, Lamborghini has added a 'Supercaps' start-stop system, starring new high-performance capacitors that ensure a super-low engine restart time of 180 milliseconds.

Sant'Agata says the new system offers a saving of around three kilograms, compared to conventional start-stop technology, thanks to the absence of the usual hefty battery arrangement. 

The big 525kW V12 engine also benefits from the debut of a new cylinder deactivation system.

When operated at reduced loads, or while cruising at speeds below 135km/h, the system shuts down one cylinder bank, effectively transforming the Aventador into a six-cylinder car. 

The new tech sees fuel consumption fall by seven percent under regular conditions, dropping to 16.0 l/100km. At highway speeds, the savings are as high as 20 percent.

On the handling front, the Aventador's chassis has been revised with stiffer springs and improved damping, promising "more precise handling and noticeably improved comfort". 

Lamborghini has also specified new options for 2013, including wheel esigns and a new carbon-fibre package that lightens the front lip, intakes, engine cover and powertrain cladding.
