Audi has added a new entry-level model to its Q7 luxury SUV range in Europe, the Q7 'ultra', which trims fuel usage to just 5.5 l/100km and lowers the price of entry for the big wagon.
Customers in Europe can now snap up the new variant for €58,000 (AU$86,300) plus on-roads. Frugal it may be, but it is not short-changed for power and torque; the 3.0 litre ultra TDI turbo-diesel engine under the bonnet is good for 160kW and 500Nm.
The previous-best fuel consumption for Q7 models not assisted by an electric motor was 5.7 l/100km. The new model's 5.5l/100km is, according to Audi, the new benchmark for the segment.
While consumption in the ultra is higher than the petrol-electric Q7 e-tron’s 2.5 l/100km, and the Q7 diesel e-tron’s ultra-low 1.7 l/100km, both e-tron variants are considerably more expensive.
The new entry-level diesel can reach 100km/h from rest in 7.1 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 216 km/h.
