Audi and Alfa Romeo have reportedly locked horns over the rights to certain ‘Q’ model names, as the former looks to expand its SUV line-up.
Given the growing popularity of SUVs in most of the world’s markets, Audi understandably wants to launch a model in virtually every segment.
With the ground work for the Audi Q SUV series from the Q3, Q5 and Q7, the German carmaker now wants to tie up model names Q1 through Q9.
But it’s Q2 and Q4 which have reportedly proved problematic for Audi, as each is still the ‘property’ of Alfa Romeo’s parent company; Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).
Britain’s CAR reports Audi has approached FCA asking for permission to use the names, to which FCA declined.
