AIMS: Lexus Planning World-first Concept For Sydney

Lexus has announced that it will debut a new concept model at October’s Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Sydney.

Details of the model are thin at this stage, but it is expected to represent an evolution of the LF-LC sports hybrid concept unveiled at Detroit earlier this year.

Described simply as a “hybrid coupe concept", the new model’s drivetrain will be capable of more than 370kW and utilise an all-wheel drivetrain.

The concept will sit as the centrepiece for the luxury brand’s stand, but for now is being teased with the simple image above.

"The concept will highlight Lexus' design and engineering expertise - marrying design with function to deliver a glimpse into the future of supercars", Lexus Australia boss Tony Cramb said today.

If the model is an evolution of LF-LC, it could signal a tipping of the balance for the model’s production future.

Toyota Europe product boss Karl Schlict was quoted as rating the LF-LC’s production chances at 50 percent just last month.

A top-end hybrid or electric sports car would make strong sense for Lexus: the car would compete with the upcoming Audi R8 e-tron and BMW i8 sports car, and help Toyota/Lexus maintain its image as a leader in green technology.

Keep an eye on TMR for full coverage of the AIMS unveiling on October 19th.
