Audi’s new Q8 SUV has been snapped wearing virtually no disguise while testing overseas.
A member of the Autopareri enthusiast group casually dropped a single image into a discussion forum, showing the new model underway from the rear quarter.
As expected, the Q8’s styling is a nod to the Q8 and Q8 Sport concepts designed to preview the new SUV with sufficient changes to ready it for mass production.
If the test vehicle is anything to go by, the rear styling will be quite a departure from Audi’s current SUV range, including the Q7 with which the Q8 will share its underpinnings and the compact Q2 - which was also designed to step away from the current Audi SUV design language.
Otherwise, the image shows a dual exhaust system, a thin rear spoiler surrounding the rear windscreen and very discreet tail lamps.
In keeping with the ‘coupe SUV’ look, the roof slopes towards the rear and the rear side windows feature quarter vent-style glass.
Audi has revealed little about the production Q8, but the smart money is on an engine package largely mirroring that of the Q7 including four- and six-cylinder petrol engines and a plug-in hybrid.
A new engine may feature in the Q8 if Audi goes ahead with a high-performance RS Q8 variant, as trademarked earlier this year.
The Audi Q8 is expected to arrive in overseas showrooms in 2019.
