Volkswagen's all-new 2018 Polo has been spied in the metal well ahead of its expected debut at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new light hatch shows more angular doors, bonnet and boot compared with the current model, but the transformation is modest rather than radical.

The pics, via enthusiast Facebook page Ferd, appear to follow predictions from March which tagged the Polo's new look as being more dynamic than its predecessor.

Styling has taken a step toward Polo's bigger sister, the Golf, which is expected to arrive in Australia in Mk 7.5 form in the second half of this year. Headlights and front grille have grown in size over the current model.

The new model will be larger, with greater length and width matched to a longer wheelbase and a bigger boot.
