Chinese commercial vehicle brand, LDV, has revealed its new T60 ute range for Australia, and has its sights firmly set on traditional dual cab utes like the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, and Holden Colorado
The key to LDV’s ute push could lie in the T60’s sharp pricing, which undercuts traditional rivals without skimping on standard equipment for the two-variant range which offers two trim levels, either the tradie-focussed T60 Pro or the more lifestyle oriented T60 Luxe.
Both models are powered by the same 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel that produces 110kW of power and 360Nm of torque, and come with the choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Pricing for the T60 range follows the example set by the company’s G10 vans, which sees the range priced two ways, with both a recommended retail driveaway price and a special price for Australian Business Number (ABN) holders.
The range starts at $28,990 for the T60 Pro manual for ABN holders, or $30,516 for private buyers. Moving up to the T60 Luxe will cost ABN holders $32,990 for ABN holders with retail customers paying $34,726.
Standard equipment for the Pro includes 17-inch alloy wheels, tray liner, air-conditioning, cruise control, cloth trim seats and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen that incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Pro also includes standard safety features including six airbags, including full-length curtain airbags, as well as a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and blind spot monitoring.
The Luxe builds on that standard specification with inclusions like leather trim, keyless entry and ignition, a rear sports bar, auto dimming rear view mirror, heated exterior mirrors and climate control air-conditioning.
The Luxe also gets a softer suspension tune for a different driving character, whereas the Pro has a “heavy duty” setup that has been designed to handle a load in the tray.
It also improves the payload, with the Pro capable of taking 1025kg (manual) and 995kg (auto) in the tray, compared to 875kg/815kg rating for the softer sprung Luxe. Both carry a 3000kg braked towing capacity.
LDV is offering a five-year/130,000km warranty for T60, plus roadside assistance and a loan car program for the same duration.
Local distributor, Ateco Automotive, has confirmed it is also working to introduce a capped price servicing program for the T60 but no details are ready to be announced yet.
The T60 goes on sale in Australia on October 1.
